ABOUT

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Anna Hoi Ching Chiu obtained her Master of Performance in Piano Accompaniment at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester under the tutelage of David Jones. She received Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Music from Hong Kong Baptist University, studied with Chan Sham Siu Wai Sylvia. In 2022, Anna finished her PGCE Secondary – Music with Specialist Instrumental Teaching training with a Distinction at the Manchester Metropolitan University and obtained her Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

 

Anna was the recipient of RNCM Brodsky Cross-School Prize with The Lucrezia Trio as harpsichordist in 2017, Piano Prize of RNCM Chris Petty English Song Competition and Milton Waring Award in 2018. During and after her studies, she was selected as one of the Leeds Lieder Young Artists both 2018 and 2023 to perform at the Breakfast Concerts. She has participated in events such as a Claude Debussy Mélodies Workshop as part of the RNCM Debussy Centenary Conference, a Melofonetica Workshop and recitals at St. Ann’s Church, Manchester. As a member of RNCM Songsters, she took part in the 2018 Day of Song and 2017 Open Day. Anna has participated in masterclasses given by Malcom Martineau, John Mark Ainsley, James Baillieu and Julius Drake.

 

As a Manchester based accompanist, Anna is active in various events across the Continents. Played as one of the accompanists, Anna performed with Hong Kong Youth Choir under the baton of world’s renown composer, Bob Chilcott, in early 2020. In 2019, Anna had her France debut at St Gaudéric Festival, performing as accompanist in Opera Gala and Lunchtime Recital along with RNCM soloists, as well as rehearsal pianist and continuo player in Handel’s Messiah conducted by Colin Beeson.

 

Anna’s experience of working with various conductors includes – Christopher Cheng (Hong Kong Youth Choir), John Rutter (Look at the World with John Rutter Concert, Conducting Masterclass and Singing Day), Gary Hulme (Prestbury Choral Society), Robert Owens (Macclesfield Male Voice Choir), Christopher Cromar (Audley Male Voice Choir), Graeme Langager (Conducting Masterclass), Stuart Overington (RNCM Chamber Choir) and Daniel Lau (Gey Teal Girls’ Choir).

 

Anna is currently playing as the rehearsal pianist for both Macclesfield and Audley Male Voice Choir, along with Prestbury Choral Society. Her past choral rehearsal accompaniment experience includes Haydn’s Nelson Mass for Prestbury Choral Society Singing Day 2025, Hong Kong Youth Choir for J.S. Bach Motets Concert in 2018, Opera Hong Kong Children Chorus in Mozart’s The Magic Fluteproduction in 2018 and RNCM Chamber Choir for their performance of J. S. Bach’s St. John Passion in 2017. Her recent repertoire includes Lily Boulanger’s Les sirens and Soir Sur La Plaine, Couperin’s Air serieux and Troisiéme Leçon, Handel’s Lucrezia, Mozart’s Requiem, Rutter’s Gloria, Mass of the Children and Visions, Rameau’s Laboravi clamans and Schönberg’s Les Misérables.

 

Anna is now an M20 based pianist providing private tutoring and accompaniment service for various occasions, including piano accompaniment for Junior RNCM.
